Award-Winning Cancer Caregiver Podcast Brings Attention to the Overlooked Health Needs of Family Caregivers
The Cancer Caregiver Podcast receives new industry recognition for providing practical, accessible support to people caring for someone with cancer
CAVE SPRINGS, Ark., July 23, 2026 — The Cancer Caregiver Podcast, hosted by longtime cancer caregiver Charlotte Bayala, is receiving new recognition for its work supporting the emotional, mental, and physical well-being of family members caring for someone with cancer.
The podcast was recently named Swaay.Health Podcast of the Year and has also received 2026 nominations from the Latin Podcast Awards and the NYC Podcast Awards. These honors follow three awards from Women Who Podcast Magazine and recognition as a 2025 International Women’s Podcast Awards finalist.
While the awards recognize the podcast’s storytelling and service, Bayala says the larger issue is the continued lack of practical support for the people providing unpaid care throughout cancer treatment.
“Cancer caregivers are often treated as part of the patient’s support system without being recognized as people whose own health is being affected,” Bayala said. “They are managing appointments, medications, uncertainty, work, family responsibilities and the emotional weight of watching someone they love go through cancer. They need more than reminders to practice self-care. They need realistic ways to preserve themselves while caregiving continues.”
Bayala created The Cancer Caregiver Podcast after years of caring for her husband through cancer, surgeries, ongoing treatment and the uncertainty that accompanies long-term illness. The weekly show combines her lived experience with her professional background as a yoga and meditation teacher, health coach and breathing coach.
Each episode is designed to fit into the limited time and energy caregivers may have available. In approximately 15 minutes or less, listeners receive one practical strategy for navigating experiences such as scanxiety, overwhelm, exhaustion, guilt, disrupted sleep, difficult communication and losing touch with themselves.
The podcast does not rely on forced positivity or suggest that caregivers can solve systemic and emotional pressures by simply taking better care of themselves. Instead, Bayala focuses on self-preservation: small, realistic practices that can help caregivers regulate stress, protect their well-being and remain connected to themselves during ongoing caregiving.
“Caregivers are frequently told to put themselves first, but that advice can feel disconnected from their daily reality,” Bayala said. “Sometimes five uninterrupted minutes, one grounding practice or one honest conversation is a more meaningful place to begin.”
Beyond the podcast, Bayala works with healthcare organizations, employers, nonprofits and caregiver communities to improve understanding of the caregiver experience. Her programs address caregiver stress, communication, identity, emotional well-being and the organizational responsibility to better support people balancing work and family caregiving.
The growing recognition of The Cancer Caregiver Podcast reflects increased attention to the essential role family caregivers play in cancer care and the need to treat caregiver well-being as a health issue rather than an afterthought.
Bayala is available for interviews about cancer caregiving, caregiver health, scanxiety, self-preservation, caregiver identity and how healthcare organizations can better support family caregivers.
